The south-east of Melbourne is one of the most diverse communities in Australia, where everyone is welcome to live together in peace and safety, even when times are challenging.
The three Councils of Greater Dandenong, Casey and Cardinia in South-East Melbourne, together with the Australian Government’s Office for Social Cohesion, the Municipal Association of Victoria and the Victorian Multicultural Commission are working towards the development of a social cohesion initiative that can help build understanding, grow connections and conversations, and protect social cohesion in the local community and region.
On December 8th, 2025, IFN Members and Supporters participated in a facilitated workshop that provided an opportunity to share understandings of what social cohesion means in the local community and the roles we can all play, in fostering connections that matter to our local and Australian context.
IFN is very appreciative of all who attended the Social Cohesion Workshop for their insights, highly engaging discussions and commitment to deepening this critical work further.
