Classification – Level 2 – pay point 3 – $30.90 per hour

The position of Community Education Officer comes under the employment of the Executive Committee of Governance of The Interfaith Network of the City of Greater Dandenong and is directly accountable to the Executive Officer.

 

Position Objectives

1.Tours to Places of Worship

  • Liaise with community groups, members of the public, schools, service organisations, government departments and business to assess needs and interests regarding planning and participation on a Tour to Places of Worship.
  • Lead, co-ordinate bookings and deliver Tours to Places of Worship within the City of Greater Dandenong and beyond where appropriate.
  • Confirm all details and arrangements with tour hosts, guides and participants prior to tour date.
  • Provide all tour guides and hosts with detailed knowledge of their roles and responsibilities; pre, during and post tour.
  • Ensure safety and risk management practices are in place for each tour and venue, including Working with Children checks are all current.
  • Oversee invoices and ensure payments are finalised prior to scheduled tour date.
  • Conduct pre-tour and post-tour evaluation and provide a monthly analysis and report on tours for the Executive Officer.
  • Ensure a welcoming and safe environment for all staff, volunteers tour hosts and participants and visitors.
  • Promote the tours program and generate publicity through local papers, social media platforms and the website.

2. Schools Annual Gathering

  • Oversee Schools Sub-Committee.
  • Lead, co-ordinate and deliver the Schools Annual Gathering in consultation with the Schools Sub-committee.

Organisational Relationships

Reports to Executive Officer
Internal Liaisons IFN staff and volunteers, tour guides, participants and visitors
External Liaisons Faith Leaders, Schools, Community Service Organisations, Local, State and Federal Governments and community

Specialist Skills and Knowledge

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the interfaith/multifaith and community sector.  Be able to empathise with others as well as recognise and value diverse cultures through engagement with various faiths, identities, languages and beliefs.
  • Ability to problem solve and minimise risk.
  • Ability to apply a high level of detail to both written and verbal communications.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with members, volunteers, participants and visitors.
  • Communicate at a professional level that is expected in an office environment and appropriately whilst on tours or in a public setting.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary Degree in Social Science, Community Development, Education, Administration or significant years of experience in a similar field.
  • Experience and understanding in areas of faith, interfaith and multifaith settings preferable.
  • Organisational and management skills in an office environment.
  • Skills in volunteer engagement, training and supervision.
  • Technology skills including the use of online meeting applications and computer programs including Microsoft Office and Social Media.
