Volunteer Tour Guide to Places of Worship Recruitment

The Interfaith Network (IFN) is seeking Volunteer Tour Guides to lead Tours to Places of Worship in Greater Dandenong and surrounding suburbs. This is an annual program and tours cater for the general public and school groups. There are 40 places of worship listed as part of this program and each tour visits between 3-4 places.

The IFN of the City of Greater Dandenong believes in harm prevention by educating and empowering people to strive for harmony, to come together and collectively engage in building trust aiming for relationships that endure beyond any differences. The IFN is a Child Safe Organisation.

Tours to Places of Worship are structured in such a way to encourage and promote inclusion, tolerance and respect for diverse faiths and cultures. It is anticipated that through participation in the tours, the awareness raised and the educational outcomes experienced will positively work towards developing a socially cohesive community and one that recognises and values the diversity of living, working or visiting in the City of Greater Dandenong.

About this opportunity

You will:

• Facilitate tours, meeting the Faith Leaders and introduce them to the tour participants
• Greet teachers, students and members of the general public
• Guide tour participants in following respectful practices and site protocols
• Represent the IFN in a professional and respectful manner
• Ensure the scheduled tours are conducted in a timely and co-ordinated manner
• Respond to the needs of each participant group
• Ensure each group has an enjoyable and safe tour

You will offer

• Your availability to lead tours as negotiated for a minimum of 12 months
• Time commitment for each tour, approximately 7 hours (8.30am-3.30pm)
• Attendance at training and information sessions as required
• Good communication skills
• Acceptance of others and recognition of diverse faiths and cultures
• The ability to problem solve and minimise risk
• Willingness to undertake training related to this role
• Willingness to be engaged, challenged and curious in new environments

You will need

• Current Police check
• Working with Children Check
• Level 2 First Aid Training
• Driver’s license and car essential
